The Great Peace...The Gathering of Good Minds CD-ROM

Review - NOW Magazine

While no copies of The Great Peace CD-ROM were available for review at press time, this is still one title NOW’s readers may want to watch for.

The brainchild of Six Nations artist Raymond Skye and Jeff Burnham, Great Peace attempts to bring to life the centuries-old oral document central to the unification of the Iroquois nations.

NOW checked out a demo the Brantford-based team brought to the Indian and Northern Affairs offices. They’re clearly hoping to get educators interested in buying this disc for Ontario schools.

And indeed it will do well in schools, where Skye’s illustrations of more elementary ideas will make The Great Peace very accessible to young users. But Working World may be underestimating the broad-based appeal of this title, which also provides two full, but different, versions of the historical document, as well as an analysis of the role it continues to play---for example, as one of the influences on the wording of the U.S. Constitution.

Without being able to really take this disc through its paces; its hard to say how nearly The Great Peace achieves what it sets out to do, but we have great expectations.
